A Ball for Daisy | Caldecott Book Activities

This Reading / Literacy resource for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grades includes critical thinking, narrative and opinion writing and art activities for Chris Rashcka‘s Caldecott winning book, A Ball for Daisy. The book has no words, only pictures, and is a story about love and loss. This product will ask students to get in touch with the story and put words (and pictures) on paper.

Example activities include:

  1. Writing a story for the book in the student’s own words.
  2. Answering the questions: Why do you think there are no words to this story? Would you rather make up the story in your own words or read the words? Explain.
  3. Describing the characters.
  4. A problem solving question – Find a solution!

Since this has been created for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades, I’ve included 2 copies of each worksheet with differing lines: mid-dashed line and single line pages.
