Fun and engaging way to teach the Aesop’s fable, The Lion and the Mouse! This Language Arts resource will use both the Caldecott’s winning picture book by Jerry Pinkney and the actual fable itself to help students gain understanding of the central theme and develop and practice important skills which will require attention to detail (both with illustration and text evidence). Students will be asked to give character analysis, describe the setting, develop a story map, explain cause and effect, show textual evidence and give opinions.

Each writing worksheet offers 2 copies (one with dashed lines and one with single lines). This will allow you to choose which works best for students.

This project-based unit is designed to help students study and record information about Wisconsin’s state bird: American Robin
What type of pages are contained in this set:
– A map page (for the state)
– Scientific classification page
– A page for students to give details about the bird’s physical description, habitat, diet, life span and reproduction
– A page where students will do additional map work to show where in the U.S. the bird lives in addition to migration information

About the book: Hey, Al is the story of a janitor named Al and his dog, Eddie. Al and Eddie had hard lives, but one day a bird offered to carry them to a magnificent island in the sky. When they arrived, Al and Eddie found it to be a paradise. However, strange things began to happen. Al and Eddie began to resemble birds, and they realized the paradise was not all it appeared to be. Al and Eddie wished to return home so they decided to escape by using their newly acquired wings to fly home. Their flight did not go according to plan as Eddie crashed into the sea and was lost. Fortunately, Eddie was able to swim home to Al. Al and Eddie were happy to return home.

Students will be given a grid map and key of a small town and asked several questions requiring them read and navigate throughout the map. There are also two additional activities to extend learning (through writing and creative design). Answer Key included.
