Materials
- 100% cotton, white beach towel
- Tie-Dye Kit (purchase from a local hobby store or Amazon – Recommended: Tulip’s One Step Tie-Dye Kit)
- Large plastic bag or plastic wrap
Directions
- Wash your white beach towel but don’t place it in the dryer.
- Lay the damp towel on a covered work surface and scrunch it together however you wish but it will be best if you end up with a long snake like tube.
- Wrap the elastics that came in your kit around the towel, creating segments while keeping in mind how many colors you may want to use and where you want them.
- Prepare the dye following the instructions in the kit.
- With gloved hands, apply the first dye to one segment of the towel making sure to also get the inside areas of the scrunched towel (unless you want large white areas). Continue applying all of the different colors that you have chosen to the different areas you’ve segmented.
- Wrap the towel in the plastic bag (or plastic wrap) and let sit for no less than 8 hours.
- Unwrap and hang to dry. Once dry, rise the towel under cool water until it runs clear. Finally, run it through your washer and dryer before heading off to the beach!
