About the book: The St. Nicholas referred to in the title is not Santa Claus but a magazine founded in 1873 Many sources refer to St. Nicholas as a children’s magazine but the articles and stories in this collection are not childish by modern American standards. The magazine published some of the country’s best writers including Louisa May Alcott, Laura Richards, Mark Twain, Joel Chandler Harris and Frances Hodgson Burnett. Among the noted authors who first published in the magazine were F. Scott Fitzgerald and E.B. White.This collection contains many articles and a few stories.
